2015 Write-Start Backpack Project Kick-Off
Project Write-Start kicks off its 26th year in collecting and distributing new backpacks and school supplies for homeless and low-income students.
Collection of donations has started strong this year with a total collection of over 1,800 backpacks thus far. And thank you to Feed the Children, a non-profit relief organization, which donated 360 backpacks all filled with school supplies! With a need of over 4,300 students in need to serve, we are off to a great start!
Please join us in our partnership effort with Santa Cruz United Way to "Stuff the Bus" on Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 10am-2pm at Target (41st Ave) 2nd level garage. An actual school bus will be on site to collect donations of new backpacks and school supplies.
Distribution of backpacks is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 11th. Backpacks will be distributed directly to students. With the support of local community agencies and local districts the Write-Start Backpack Project will maximize its distribution efforts before the 2015-16 school year begins.
With the continued high need the Write-Start Project will be collecting donations year round in efforts to fulfill the educational needs of homeless and low-income students.
