Inside Education Class of 2014-15

Inside Education Class of 2014-15

Science came alive in the redwoods as the participants from the 2014-15 Inside Education Program wrapped up their series of hands-on workshops visiting schools throughout the county by spending the day at Camp Koinonia in Corralitos, interacting with Outdoor Science staff and students.

Approximately 100 fifth and sixth grade students were spending four days and three nights of intensive science and nature study at the camp. During field classes they followed qualified naturalists through forest, mountains and streams, learning the interrelationships between plants, animals and humans.

Outdoor Science School is a program sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. Nearly a hundred thousand students have attended the Outdoor Science School since the program was founded by the SCCOE in 1973.

For those not familiar with the Santa Cruz County Office of Education's community leadership program, Inside Education is a sequence of workshops conducted once a month through the school year. Designed to better acquaint the community with the programs and services of public education in Santa Cruz County, registered participants meet with school leaders, teachers and administrators, visit classrooms and specialty programs to obtain a first-hand, interactive, in-depth look at the business of education and the methods of teaching students in our public schools.
