On June 29, 2024, Governor Newsom signed a budget trailer bill, SB 153 (Chap. 38, Statutes of 2024), that allows teaching credential candidates to use their bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education as a demonstration of the basic skills requirement, effective immediately. For most credentials, with some exceptions listed below, you will no longer be required to take the CBEST:
- Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit for Prospective Teachers
- Exchange Certificated Employee Credential
- The Sojourn Certificated Employee Credential
- Designated Subjects Supervision and Coordination Credentials
