Clearing the Air Vaping Prevention Webinar Series

Smoking and vaping, both tobacco and cannabis, have emerged as pressing concerns affecting the well-being of teenagers, casting a shadow on their physical and mental health. This fall, the County Office of Education’s (COE) Tobacco Use Prevention and Education (TUPE) program, in collaboration with Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance (PVPSA), has intensified its efforts to raise awareness and prevent the detrimental impact of these habits within our school community.

Partnership for Progress

In a united front against this growing issue, we have teamed up with Santa Cruz City Schools and a coalition of local organizations to initiate a bilingual parent and caregiver informational forum. This collaborative effort aims to equip parents and caregivers with the knowledge and tools necessary to understand and address the challenges associated with teen smoking and vaping.

The Bilingual Forum

The bilingual forum serves as a platform for parents and caregivers to gain insights into the dangers of smoking and vaping among teens. It’s an opportunity to bridge language gaps, ensuring that crucial information reaches every corner of our diverse community. By hosting such events, we foster inclusivity and empower parents and caregivers to actively engage in conversations about the well-being of their children.

Expanding Outreach

Recognizing the significance of continuous engagement, we plan to host additional sessions of this informational forum in the coming year. The commitment to regular events reflects our dedication to ongoing education and support within the community. These forums provide a safe space for parents and caregivers to share experiences, ask questions, and learn from experts in the field.

Access to Resources

For those unable to attend the forum, we have made the slide deck available in both English and Spanish. This resource serves as a comprehensive guide, offering valuable information on the risks associated with teen smoking and vaping. Moreover, we encourage anyone with questions to reach out to the presenters using the contact information provided on the final slide. Open communication is key to addressing concerns and taking proactive steps toward prevention.

Early Intervention Matters

Preventing and intervening early with youth vaping is paramount. By fostering collaboration between educational institutions, community organizations, and parents, we create a robust support system for teens facing the challenges of smoking and vaping. Together, we can break the cycle and empower our youth to make informed, healthy choices.

As we navigate the complex landscape of teen tobacco and cannabis use, it is crucial to stand united in our commitment to education, awareness, and prevention. The collaborative efforts of the COE’s TUPE program, PVPSA, Santa Cruz City Schools, and local organizations exemplify the strength that comes from working together. By expanding outreach and providing accessible resources, we strive to empower parents, caregivers, and communities to play an active role in safeguarding the well-being of our teens. Together, let us create a future where the harmful impact of smoking and vaping is but a distant memory for the generations to come.
