The Santa Cruz County Office of Education partnered with the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District, Safe Rx Santa Cruz Community Health, and the San Lorenzo Valley Rotary to provide free Narcan (an opioid antagonist medication used to prevent opioid overdose) on Sunday, September 10th at SLV Tri-Campus.
We were joined by more than 25 volunteers and distributed over 508 units, totaling 1,016 medications in North County. This event marked the third distribution event following our initial success at Cabrillo College in April and again in June at Watsonville High School. We had two drive-thru lanes and one park-and-walk-up station where parents and neighbors could gather, ask questions, and take home parenting booklets and resources.
We will continue to support our districts as we increase access to Narcan and raise awareness of opioid overdoses and Fentanyl poisoning countywide.
New Brighton Middle School is hosting their Narcan event in the form of a Harvest Festival and Community Pop-up on Saturday, November 4th. This new model includes a carnival, popcorn, and live music. Better together.
