Coastal Cleanup Day 2023
The Santa Cruz County Office of Education and our Tobacco Use Prevention Education program is proud to partner with local nonprofit Save Our Shores for the largest volunteer event on the planet – a day when we remove the most tobacco product related waste including thousands of cigarette butts – Annual Coastal Cleanup Day. We join forces every year with this beloved ocean conservation nonprofit, as well as our many friends at the Santa Cruz County Tobacco Education Coalition.
While the COE is proud to support and promote the entire event including all sites in our County, the TUPE team will captain a cleanup site with the Santa Cruz County Tobacco Education Coalition and focus on tobacco product waste data collection at Corcoran Lagoon and 20th Ave.

Special this year: At our Corcoran cleanup site, participants will replace each cigarette butt they collect with a personally designed, larger-than-life replica to show the public just how BIG a problem cigarette butts really are.
How to prepare:
- Register for the cleanup with Save Our Shores! https://bit.ly/
registercoastalcleanup. By registering, you can sign a digital waiver and bring the email confirmation to the event to make your check-in process faster.
- Wear: sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and dress in layers for the weather.
- Bring: Your filled, reusable water bottle
- Bring (only if you have them already, optional): reusable garden gloves and a bucket to reduce single use plastic glove and bag use for the cleanup.
We will provide all necessary cleanup materials including instruction and safety reminders at the event. We will also provide all necessary art making materials for the larger-than-life cigarette butt display.
Please help us spread the word and share these graphics and this email about our Coastal Cleanup Day site. We hope to see you there!
