On Friday, May 20th, over 150 of the students enrolled in the Santa Cruz County Office of Education had a really exciting time at the annual Fun Day celebration.
Every spring for over 30 years the Santa Cruz County Sherriff’s Posse has hosted this event for all of our Special Education students at their Posse Grounds on Ocean Street Extension. They provided horseback rides, a bounce house, and a great lunch to the County Office of Education special education students and their families.
Teachers, instructional aides, and volunteers created a festive atmosphere with musical groups, games, and art activities. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department and Santa Cruz Police Department explained all the bells & whistles in their patrol cars as students sat in the driver’s seat. CalFire and Ben Lomond Fire District brought their fire trucks for the students to explore. This year, Fun Day even had a surprise visit from Smokey the Bear.
Fun Day was a really happy, carefree day for students who often face many difficult challenges. Our students, parents, staff and community look forward to this each year, and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Thank you Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Posse!
