SLV Students Participate In The Real DUI Court

On April 13th, the COE coordinated the Real DUI Court in Schools Assembly at San Lorenzo Valley High School for 300 juniors and seniors. The Real DUI In Schools Assembly is an interactive student assembly that brings an actual DUI hearing/sentencing from the courthouse to the classroom.

The assembly provides high school students with an opportunity to witness the consequences of a young adult’s DUI by observing their sentencing hearing. Our testimonial speaker Nicole Brown also participated and spoke about how a teenager who was driving under the influence hit and paralyzed her, how that experience has forever changed her life, and her journey to forgiveness.

Real DUI Court In Schools Assembly is a partnership with Santa Cruz Superior Courts, Santa Cruz County Office of Education, the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office, Santa Cruz County Office of the Public Defenders, the California Highway Patrol, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and the Health Services Agency of Santa Cruz County.
