Mi nombre es Elisa V. Morales. Una de las razones por la cual yo decidí estudiar y aprovechar la ayuda que me brindó el programa de la Career Advancement Charter (CAC), es que yo siempre quise estudiar y llegar a ser una asistente de pediatría. Ese era mi sueño desde niña.
Yo soy de México, ahí nací y ahí me crié. Lamentablemente no pude cumplir mi sueño académico pues mis padres no pudieron darme el apoyo financiero para continuar con mis estudios. Además mi papá no quiso que ni yo ni mis hermanas siguiéramos estudiando. Nosotras respetamos su decisión pues él tenía sus razones. En México a los padres no se les exige que manden a sus hijos a la escuela.
Afortunadamente a los 15 años yo tuve la oportunidad de llegar a los Estados Unidos con mis padres y mis hermanos. Aquí sí pude continuar yendo a la escuela preparatoria. Desafortunadamente por razones laborales de mis padres no nos quedábamos a vivir en Estados Unidos todo el año. Mis padres solamente venían por temporadas laborales, pues ellos trabajaban cosechando fresa. Así que solo estábamos en California los meses de verano y en realidad era muy poco tiempo para poder tener éxito en la preparatoria. Por causa de eso no pude aprender mucho y graduarme de la escuela preparatoria.
Posteriormente cumplí 18 años y tuve que trabajar en la agricultura como lo hacían mis papás. Yo quería seguir estudiando pero ahora el trabajo era mi prioridad. Al poco tiempo me casé, entonces empecé a formar mi familia. Ahora mis prioridades eran seguir trabajando y cuidar a mi familia. Se me hizo muy difícil intentar regresar a la escuela.
Ahora que mis hijos ya están grandes sigo teniendo la idea de seguir estudiando. Comencé a buscar programas educativos para adultos para poder terminar la preparatoria. Le doy muchas gracias a Cristina Valentín y Verenisé Valentín por darme la información para registrarse en la escuela preparatoria CAC. Ahora mi meta principal es graduarme de la preparatoria y demostrarle a mis hijos que nunca es tarde para cumplir metas. Además también quiero que ellos se den cuenta que en este país todos podemos lograr lo que queramos. Quiero que mis hijos sepan que la educación académica es muy importante. También quiero que sepan que siempre encontrarán ayuda para seguir adelante. En este mundo hay gente buena.
Por fin he logrado graduarme de la preparatoria. Complete todos mis créditos para obtener el diploma. Yo me siento orgullosa de mi misma por obtener este gran logro. Es algo que me da mucha felicidad. Pensar que a pesar de los obstáculos pude lograr mis sueños. Yo sé que aún me falta mucho para poder llegar adonde quiero. Aún quiero estudiar para ser una asistente de pediatría. Yo sé que lo lograré, seguiré saliendo adelante y buscando las oportunidades. Gracias al programa CAC y a Verenisé y a Christina por ayudarme.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
My name is Elisa V. Morales. One of the reasons I decided to study and take advantage of the help that the Career Advancement Charter (CAC) program gave me is that I always wanted to study and become a pediatric assistant. That has been my dream since I was a child.
I am from Mexico, I was born and raised there. Unfortunately, I could not fulfill my academic dream because of financial hardships. My parents could not provide the financial support necessary to continue my studies. Furthermore, my father did not want me or my sisters to continue studying. We respected his decision because he had his reasons. In Mexico, parents are not required to send their children to school.
Fortunately, at the age of 15, I had the opportunity to come to the United States with my parents and brothers. Here I was able to continue going to high school. Unfortunately, due to my parents’ seasonal work, we did not stay to live in the United States. My parents picked strawberries which meant we were only in California during the summer months. Such a short stay meant that my education was disrupted and it was difficult to be successful in high school. Our moves meant I was not able to learn much nor graduate from high school.
I turned 18 and had to work in agriculture like my parents did. I wanted to continue studying but now work was my priority. Shortly after, I got married and had my firstborn. Now my priorities were to continue working and take care of my family. It was very challenging for me to try to return to school.
Now that my children are grown, I want to fulfill my educational goals. I started looking for adult education programs so I could finally earn my high school diploma. I am very grateful to Cristina Valentín and Verenisé Valentín for providing the information to register at Career Advancement Charter School. Now my main goal was to graduate from high school and show my children that it is never too late to achieve your goals. Furthermore, I also want them to realize that in this country, we can all achieve whatever we want. I want my children to know that education is very important. I also want everyone to know that you will always find help to move forward. There are good people in this world.
I am finally graduating and earning my high school diploma. I completed all of the required credits. I feel proud of myself for achieving this important milestone. It is something that gives me a lot of happiness. To think that despite the obstacles I was able to achieve my dreams. I know that I still have a long way to go to get where I want to be and what I want to accomplish. I still want to study to be a pediatric assistant. I know that I will achieve it. I will continue to move forward and look for opportunities. A big thanks to the CAC program and especially to Verenisé and Christina for all of your support. Thank you for everything.
