A Season of Purpose, Building Possibilities

This summer has been a season of growth and building possibilities across our educator workforce initiatives in Santa Cruz County. We proudly launched the Future Educators Summer Academy, introducing high school students to the teaching profession through hands-on classroom experience, mentorship, and paid learning opportunities. The Closing Ceremony on July 8 marked the beginning of what we hope will become a powerful annual tradition—cultivating local talent and creating guided pathways.

Momentum continues through a variety of exciting opportunities and key updates:

  • Learn how to become a teacher: Register to attend the Information Session with CSU Monterey Bay on August 27 to explore credential pathways, admissions steps, and financial aid.

  • Funding support available: The Santa Cruz Classified Employee Grant (SCCEG) is now open for 2025–26. Current and former classified employees pursuing a credential may receive up to $4,368 per year.

  • Stay informed: The 2025–26 State Budget Act extends RICA and assessment deferral deadlines, while AB 2345 now requires CPR certification for certain credentials and permits. Be sure your program or district is in compliance.

  • Professional growth: Register for the free “Present Like a Pro” webinar (July 22) and apply for the California Black Studies Curriculum Teacher Fellows Program by August 15.

  • Inspiration & resilience: Explore the Roadmaps for Resilience, the July Happiness Calendar, and new research on how teacher experience continues to drive effectiveness.
