County Math Contest

The Santa Cruz County Math Contest is a county-wide competition for 5-8th grade students in Santa Cruz County. This year, it will occur on Saturday, May 6 from 8:45-11:00 AM at a Santa Cruz County location to be announced.

Now in its 56th year, the contest provides students with both a team competition and an individual competition, and interested students are required to participate in both.

The team competition requires students to work together using problem-solving strategies, showing work and providing clear and detailed solutions. Team sizes can be from 3-5 students. The individual test for all grade levels uses a free response format.

Students receive certificates of participation, and winners receive medals for the top three finishers in each category:

  • Individual: Grade 5, 6, 7 and 8
  • Team: Grade 5, 6, 7 and 8
  • Teachers and students can see questions from past contests on our Math Contest Website.

To register, a Lead Teacher from your school must register students for Team (3-5 students) and Individual contests by Wednesday, April 26.

Please note that Lead teachers will also need to identify an adult proctor (such as a parent or another teacher) for every five students they register.

As soon as we secure a site, we will send Lead Teachers more details about the event
