Looking forward…

As California enters 2026, the state continues to support TK–12 schools and community colleges—creating new opportunities for those considering a career in education. This year marks an important step forward in strengthening and diversifying the educator workforce, throughout the state and locally.

New and ongoing initiatives are helping reduce financial barriers for future teachers, including expanded teacher preparation grants and the newly authorized Student Teacher Stipend Program, which will provide $10,000 stipends to credential candidates beginning July 1, 2026.

January is also a great time to plan ahead.

  • Admissions application is currently open for many credential programs.
  • Open enrollment for anyone interested in the Santa Cruz Classified Employee Grant Program.

As you move forward, remember that well-being matters. Tools like the January Happiness Calendar and events such as the Great Kindness Challenge (January 26–30) encourage reflection, compassion, and connection—values that are at the heart of education.
